Purley Sustainability Group

Who We Are

Community Sustainability Group for Purley on Thames.

We are a not-for-profit community group set up as an unincorporated association.

Formed in March 2020, we aim to:

  • Protect, restore and develop interest in local nature and biodiversity

  • Develop a variety of community growing spaces from which we can provide access to locally-grown, chemical-free produce and emphasise the importance of food security

  • Provide local support and options to reduce, reuse and recycle, including a local repair cafe and promotion of local businesses that offer repair services

  • Lobby for and promote improved local public transport, cycling and walking options

  • Support community energy and energy-efficiency schemes (e.g. using renewable sources, such as solar panels and advice on home insulation schemes)

  • Address the local impact of climate change (e.g. flooding) in Purley on Thames

FUNDING

PSG achieves its funding by holding various events and projects throughout the year.

There is our monthly Repair Café where items are refurbished for which voluntary contributions are donated by people attending.

West Berkshire Lottery is also another way the group receives contributions as a percentage of ticket sales each month.

More information on www.westberkshirelottery.co.uk/

Why not apply and state PSG as your preferred cause?

EasyFund Raising is a UK country wide scheme where when purchases are made on a companies website that a percentage of the cost is donated to the group. There are hundreds of companies on the list.

More information on https://easyfundraising.org.uk. Again you can apply and state PSG as the group to receive any contributions.

The group have also been successful in application for and receiving some grants from various trust groups, such as Greenham Trust and the Soil association.

Any monies received are used to enhance the various projects that the group are participating in for the community.
